Mantan Perdana Menteri Jepang, Shinzo Abe meninggal dunia pada Jumat (8/7). Beliau ditembak saat sedang menyampaikan pidato di Nara, barat Jepang. Sebelum meninggal, ia sempat dibawa ke rumah sakit menggunakan helikopter. Mengalami pendarahan dan tak sadarkan diri.
Abe ditembak saat tengah berpidato dalam kampanye Partai Liberal Demokratik, menjelang Pemilu Jepang.

Shinzo Abe merupakan salah satu politikus senior Negeri Matahari Terbit. Pria kelahiran 21 September 1954 itu, terakhir memegang jabatan sebagai perdana menteri Jepang.
Meski tak lagi menjabat, Abe disebut sebagai salah satu politikus paling berpengaruh di Jepang.
Sukses terbesar Abe adalah mengantarkan Jepang pada kebijakan moneter dan fiskal. Negara itu berhasil keluar dari kemandekan ekonomi. Pada akhirnya, mengerek reputasi Abe di level internasional.
Abe diduga pernah sakit sebanyak dua kali sebelum mundur dari jabatannya. Kedapatan mengunjungi rumah sakit untuk menjalani pemeriksaan kesehatan.
Sebelumnya, pria kelahiran Tokyo itu pernah bekerja di perusahaan Kobe Steel. Namun, pada 1981 Abe memutuskan untuk keluar, lalu menjadi asisten sang ayah, Shintaro Abe. Yang saat itu didapuk menjadi menteri luar negeri.
Beliau lalu mengikuti jejak ayahnya, dengan bergabung bersama Partai Demokratik Liberal (LDP). Sejak itu, dia mulai bergelut dengan dunia politik.
Abe pertama kali lolos menjadi anggota parlemen Jepang (Diet) dari wilayah konstituen Yamaguchi. Karir politiknya bersama LDP terus melesat. Hingga menjadi Sekretaris Wakil Kepala Kabinet pada Juli 2000. Lima tahun kemudian dia terpilih menjadi Sekretaris Kepala Kabinet.
Pada tahun 2006, Abe berhasil terpilih menjadi perdana menteri. Mengalahkan pesaing politiknya, Taro Aso dan Sadakazu Tanigaki. Namun, Abe harus mundur setahun kemudian akibat kondisi kesehatan.
Beliau maju kembali pada 2012 dan menjabat sebagai perdana menteri hingga 2020. Abe tercatat telah menjabat sebagai perdana menteri selama hampir delapan tahun.
Pada kepemimpinannya, Abe mengajukan gagasan amandemen undang-undang dasar Jepang. Dilakukan untuk memperkuat pasukan militer Jepang akibat kondisi geopolitik yang memanas. Seperti agresivitas Korea Utara dan China yang gencar membangun persenjataan.
Abe juga berupaya menjadi penengah pertikaian antara Amerika Serikat dan Iran. Dua negara yang merupakan sekutu Jepang.
Dari sisi militer, Jepang sangat bergantung kepada AS . Sedangkan Iran, merupakan salah satu pemasok minyak bumi Jepang. Sebelum akhirnya diembargo oleh AS.
Di masa pemerintahannya pula, hubungan Jepang dan Korea Selatan menemui jalan buntu. Kala itu, Jepang berusaha merevisi sejarah bangsa. Dengan tidak menonjolkan kekejaman saat Perang Dunia II. Sementara Korsel, menuntut tanggung jawab dan ganti rugi Jepang. Atas kekerasan militer hingga pemerkosaan yang dialami para perempuan Korsel pada PD II.
Kontroversi dan Serangkaian Tudingan.
Karier politik Abe tak selalu mulus. Pada 2018, Abe terjerat skandal penjualan tanah milik negara dengan diskon besar.
Abe dituding menjual tanah negara, lebih murah 10 persen dari harga pasar. Kepada lembaga pendidikan Moritomo Gakuen, yang dijalankan oleh teman dekat istri Abe, Akie Abe.
Kasus ini pertama kali terungkap pada 2017. Sejak terendus, nama Akie Abe langsung dihapus dari dokumen resmi jual-beli tanah tersebut. Menteri Keuangan Taro Aso bahkan mengaku sudah mengubah sejumlah dokumen. Terkait penjualan kontroversial itu.
Skandal itu dinilai sebagai krisis politik terbesarnya sejak menjabat pada Desember 2012. Skandal itu juga memicu gelombang aksi unjuk rasa, menuntutnya untuk mengundurkan diri.
Abe pun telah meminta maaf kepada masyarakat Jepang terkait kasus tersebut.
